Tres Sabores ¿Porqué No? (why not?) A blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Petite Syrah, this wine offers excellent progressive fruit, well-rounded tannins and a little pepper spice on the finish. Made by Julie Johnson at her "Tres Sabores" vineyards and winery are nestled against the western Hills of Rutherford where she and her family grow organically certified grapes. For full bodied wine lovers (think The Prisoner.) Only 500 cases produced.
Red & White Experimenters will receive:
Robert Keenan Chardonnay 2007 Napa Spring Mtn. District
Keenan Winery is located in Spring Mountain District, high in the Mayacamas mountain range above the town of Saint Helena. The 2007 Chardonnay was hand harvested. Twenty percent of the
juice was fermented and aged in stainless steel, while eighty percent was fermented and aged in oak barrels. No secondary, or malolactic fermentation was carried out, leading to the crisp, citrus character. The portion of Chardonnay aged in barrel was left on its lees and stirred weekly.
The finished wine shows citrus, ripe pear and green apple in the nose.
Hints of lush white peach are noticed as the wine opens up. The sur-lie aging has added richness and complexity. A touch of oak character returns on the finish as well as a hint of minerality.
Excerpt from Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Issue # 180, December
2008 - “The non-malolactic 2007 Chardonnay from Spring Mountain offers up
crisp, zesty, white currant and nectarine notes interwoven with hints of
flowers and citrus oil. Elegant, with good acidity as well as medium body,
Chablis lovers will be thrilled with it. Enjoy it over the next several years."
Wine Enthusiast Magazine - August 2009 - 91 Points, Editors Choice
“...shows mouthwatering flavors of flint, Meyer lemons and limes, with
a touch of smoky oak. Very fine and elegant, a beautiful Chardonnay that will support, not overwhelm food."
Red only Experimenters will receive:
Tenuta di Arceno 2005 PrimaVoce Toscana a super tuscan that tastes like a Bordeaux. A blend of 72% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Syrah, PrimaVoce (the leading voice in an opera company) is an "aria" of both power and beauty. Produced from low yielding, meticulously farmed vineyards, the wine is supple, rich and complex, offering a multi-layered sensory experience. From its opening note to its grand finale, PrimaVoce is truly a symphony in the glass!
Scientists will receive the following red this month:
L'Aventure Optimus 2006
Wine Advocate # 184 Aug 2009, Robert Parker: "A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Syrah, and 5% Petit Verdot, performed slightly better than it did last year. Reminiscent of a northern Rhone blended with a Bordeaux, it exhibits sweet cassis, graphite, and a chalky, powdery minerality, good structure, and full body. As the wine sits in the glass, hints of espresso roast and white chocolate emerge. This structured, slightly backward, well-endowed 2006 should age effortlessly for 10-15 years. One of the reference point producers in Paso Robles, Frenchman Stephan Asseo continues to turn out an intriguing as well as provocative range of brilliant red wines."
The second bottle for Scientists will be a white or red specially selected to the taste of the club member.
